Norwood CPF Weekly Report

Hi All,
It is with a heavy heart that I write this report today.  A young family that was clearly loved by those that they were in contact with has had their lives shattered.  We are still waiting for the forensic and detectives report to confirm the details and source of the blaze.  All the reports are speculation until then.
The facts are that a father has been left grieving the loss of his wife and two children in a fire at 19 The Avenue, Orchards.
A sad day indeed. Thank you to all who have offered support and sent messages back after the mail I sent out earlier.  I shall convey these when I am able to.

Here are a few fire prevention tips, ones that I can think of – Get your electrical compliance checked out – faulty wiring often results in fires.  Have fire extinguishers available in your house.  Teach your family what to do in an emergency situation and who to call.
It seems obvious that schools and public centres have fire and emergency drills, why shouldn’t we have a similar thing for our own houses?

Weekly Report 14/7 – 18/7

There was one house robbery that occurred in Orange Grove – 11th Ave (Cnr 14th Str).  The occupant was surprised by two males who took the car and some jewellery.  There was no weapon involved.
House break-in’s and thefts. They occurred in the following suburbs (& streets):
Orange Grove (4th Ave, 7th Str, 8th Str & 10th Str), Birdhaven (Wrenrose Ave), Houghton Estate (3rd Str), Melrose (Atholl Oaklands), The Gardens (Fountain Rd) & Waverley (Scott Str).

There has been an increase in thefts of Motor vehicles.
Please keep a lookout if you own a V W as three were taken the previous week in and around Norwood. There were cars stolen in Cheltondale & Mountainview this last week.
There were also numerous thefts out of motor vehicles.  It cannot be stressed more – DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR IF YOU ARE PARKING OUTSIDE ON THE STREET.  Your car will be broken into & the stuff will be taken.
There has also been an increase in petty theft at Melrose Arch.  Please take care of your personal belongings when visiting the centre.

Reminders

Next Public meeting – 25th August 2010.

Thanks and I hope that you all have a safe week.  Please remember to report all criminal activity to the SAPS.  No crime is to small not to report.  If you do not report it, it does not get logged and it will not be tracked.  You are abetting the criminals if you do not report a crime.

I have also had a few people questioning me as they are unsure of who we as the CPF are.  We are a members of the community who give of our time voluntarily to assist the community and the Norwood SAPS.  We do not get paid for what we do and do not expect to.  All donations go to the CPF coffers and are used for expenses incurred in getting our message out there & helping the SAPS.
